Wargaming Weekend web 

We wish to announce a "Wargaming Weekend" (well in fact two)

Andy has been running board wargaming weekends for the last 30? years, formally and formerly as part of the European Historical Board Wargaming Society; lately with what we regards as friends. Second Chance Games has a large enough customer base that we thought we would be able to organise a board wargaming weekend and open it up to our customer base. As our Autumn one is established with our friends it seemed prudent to offer a Spring event allowing both our customers and friends the flexibility to pick and choose when to join us for some social gaming. We are rooted in the board wargaming industry and this is one way we can give back to the community. 

When?
Thursday 6th April to Sunday 9th April

Secure private function room available for the duration from Thursday morning until Sunday noon.

Where?
Wigan, Britannia Hotel (off M6) WN6 0SR

Details:

The function room(s) will be available throughout the whole weekend and is locked by keycards. Generally pairs/groups set up their games and play opening moves during Thursday, some attendees arrive late Thursday. Thursday evening meal provided. 

  • Friday, Breakfast, Wargaming, Evening Meal, Wargaming or Alternative
  • Saturday, Breakfast, Wargaming, Evening Meal, Wargaming or Alternative
  • Sunday, Breakfast, Packup and departures

After the Evening Meal some pairs will continue to wargame yet others will join in more social gaming e.g. Euro games, 18xx games etc.

Most people will attend with a gaming partner or have formed a group. There is the opportunity for individuals to join a larger game or we could try and match two individuals together. You are not limited to playing wargames.

We have secured room rates that include dinner bed and breakfast at £42 per person (shared twin rooms) or £52 per person single occupancy. Before booking your room please contact us via the contact form, email or phone to register interest and/or confirm your attendance. Loosely speaking we are looking for between 10 and 30 attendees to make it a success. Too few and it may not occur, too many will make it less social for all. There will be an attendance cost of £10/day or £25 for the Thu-Sun to cover the costs of the room hire which includes tea and coffee facilities. The hotel are very accommodating of our requirements and provide us with enough tables and chairs and allow us to consume our own food and drink on premises. There are facilities to buy lunch on site, their are local shops and cafes nearby and a hotel bar. The hotel has a leisure facility at additional costs. The hotel is basic and probably in the 2-3 star range.

As mentioned we plan to run two such events per year and will hope to be able to announce details for the Autumn event soon after the Spring event.

With some recent interest I can now confirm the event is taking place. I will email all those who have expressed interest to confirm things, the games they will play and their rooming preferences.
